As the Principal Member of Technical Staff, you will be responsible for developing solutions to complex business and technical problems or issues of complex scope using advanced engineering and scientific principles.  You will be recognized in the company as a technical leader within a specific area and may lead projects of small to medium size and technical breath.

Key Roles and Responsibilities (AI/ML & Network Intelligence Enhanced)

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI/ML solutions that leverage real-time and historical data collected from F5 (BIG-IP, iRules, APM/ASM), NETSCOUT (nGeniusONE, InfiniStream, AI Streamer), and APCON (IntelliView, packet brokers) to drive intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and network optimization.

  • Architect and implement deep learning models and LLMs to analyze traffic patterns, detect anomalies, and generate actionable insights from high-volume telemetry and packet data across enterprise networks.

  • Develop and operationalize AI/ML pipelines that ingest, process, and learn from multi-source network data, enabling use cases such as automated threat detection, performance forecasting, and intelligent routing.

  • Design and deploy LLM-based solutions for interpreting network logs, summarizing alerts, and enhancing observability through natural language interfaces and automated diagnostics.

  • Integrate AI/ML capabilities into existing network infrastructure, ensuring seamless interoperability with F5, NETSCOUT, and APCON platforms, and enabling real-time decision-making and adaptive control.

  • Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert in Global and Local load balancing solutions, Visibility and observability-based AI-driven network intelligence, guiding teams through the full lifecycle of intelligent solution development—from architecture and model design to deployment and continuous learning.

  • Apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex challenges at the intersection of network performance, security, and AI, using tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, and Hugging Face Transformers.

  • Lead initiatives to embed AI/ML-driven observability into network operations, using data from packet brokers and traffic managers to train models that predict outages, optimize bandwidth, and detect zero-day threats.

  • Provide architectural guidance for hybrid cloud and edge deployments of AI/ML models, ensuring scalability, security, and performance across distributed environments.

  • Conduct in-depth evaluations of network and application data, using AI-enhanced analytics to uncover hidden patterns, root causes, and optimization opportunities.

  • Mentor engineers and data scientists in best practices for integrating AI/ML with network telemetry, fostering innovation and technical excellence across teams.

  • Exhibit significant contributions in complex technical areas such as AI model governance, ethical AI deployment, and secure integration of intelligent systems into mission-critical infrastructure.

  • Manage and deliver high-impact projects that combine AI/ML innovation with deep network expertise, aligning technical solutions with strategic business goals.

Required Experience:

  • 8-10 years’ relevant experience; Technical Career Pathway (TCP) role

Required Education:

  • PhD in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, including heavy STEM emphasis or Masters in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, including heavy STEM emphasis or a Bachelors in an approved field from an approved university with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

Environmental Requirements:

This position may be responsible for contributing to AT&T compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to its job function. This may include, but is not limited to, work related to fuel tanks, emergency and stand-by generators, boilers, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, batteries, manholes and vaults, water wells, linear and other construction projects, water discharge, or air emissions.

Our Principal Member of Technical Staff earns between $160,900 - $270,400 annually.  Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
